Linux Install Fest Jan 17 2026
Venue: Cliff Wright Public Library Meeting Room#
Saskatoon, Canada
Why?#
- faster on old PCs
- better privacy and autonomy
- can still do normal tasks
- for Canadians to get their “Elbows Up”, taking control of their own sovereignty, digital lives and personal data. They can reduce their dependence on, and subservience to foreign nations, and foreign agendas.
Before Arrival:
- bring a laptop newer than 8 years old, preferably one you’ve researched as 100% Linux hardware-compatible. If in doubt, get a used Lenovo Thinkpad
- bring a decent-quality USB stick which will become a Linux Mint Installation media. Even a small-size one, like 8GB, is enough
- The Linux Mint install will potentially wipe the disk! Take your time, and make a backup of any personal data from the system partition. Hint: If you have two partitions (for example, C and D), move the data from the system partition (C:) that you want to keep to the non-system partition (D:). Pay attention to the files inside the user directory (Desktop, Downloads, Documents,… ), and export bookmarks and passwords from the browser. If you don’t have an additional partition, you can use a second, separate USB flash drive.
